A professional photographer for more than 30 years, James Shive specializes in producing high-quality photographs of architecture for design professionals with a particular emphasis on specifically serving architects, builders and interior designers.
Over the years, Jim has photographed more than a thousand residential projects from palatial custom-built homes to smaller suburban housing developments, many of which have been located in unique environmental settings. He also has photographed hundreds of large modern schools including complex technology centers, state-of-the-art gyms and theaters. Other projects he has photographed are hospitals, corporate and legal centers, and places of entertainment and public recreational areas.
Jim’s significant years of creative experience affords him the ability to hit the ground running, while quickly grasping his architectural clients’ particular needs and concerns. His personal appreciation for nature and the beauty of available light is a trademark of his exterior work. His aesthetic sense shines through in the finer details captured in interior shots.
Jim also takes deep pride in capturing the essence of each unique design professional’s vision, understanding his or her investment in the creative process. His reputation is one of superb reliability, superior images, and dedication to delivering a job that is on time and within an affordable budget.
Over the years, Jim’s photographs have appeared in a diverse range of dozens of trade and business publications, and have been used regularly on professional architect and builder web sites, in brochures, marketing materials, and more. In addition to extensive years of hands-on experience, Jim’s early professional studies include Kean University in New Jersey, where he studied under the auspices of noted photographer Donald Lokuta, and at The School of Visual Arts and at Parsons School of Design, both in New York City.
Jim is also well versed in all forms of studio lighting and advanced Portraiture, as well as in darkroom skills, although today he shoots strictly in digital and large architectural camera formats.
Jim is also fully experienced in computer technology as it applies to photography. He is a master of Adobe Photoshop, particularly in techniques specific to the architectural image.
